Minimalism

Today I put together a list of "essential" items I want to be sure to take with me in my camper. Some of these aren't strictly necessary, but this is what I plan to take.

• Clothes: infinity dress, jeans, leggings, long-sleeved shirt, tank top, bras, underwear, dress clothes, socks, rain jacket
• Shoes: everyday flats, running shoes, rain boots, simple black heels
• Towels, pillow, bedding, laundry soap
• Dog items: leash and collar, mess baggies, favorite toys, winter jacket, food, bowls, Greenies treats, string cheese, carrier, important papers (vet documents)
• Cash, cards, ID, important papers
• Phone, iPad, chargers
• Toiletries including: toothbrush and toothpaste, razor, shampoo and conditioner, soap, makeup, comb, deodorant, baby wipes, nail clippers, tweezers, moisturizer, fragrance, hair clips, dye, TP
• Medicine, first aid kit (human and dog)
• Sunglasses, keys, tinted lip balm, hankie, condoms
• Food
• Water bottle
• Sewing kit
• Silverware, plate(s), bowl(s)

Dad

In the next step of our journey, I've spoken with my dad. He is a longtime motorhome owner and traveling coppersmiths. We were already planning to move to the Bay Area together, and now we're discussing traveling together as gypsies. I think I might explore basket-weaving as something I can sell alongside my dad's copper artwork at markets around the country. We also talked about the possibility of eventually buying some property and developing a permaculture farm and/or animal rescue. In any event, I'm very glad to have access to my dad's knowledge and experience with a nomadic lifestyle. I think it will help immensely. He is excited to be able to continue this lifestyle with me, and to share his expertise.

Day 1: Deciding to Become a Gypsy

Hello and welcome! This is a new blog belonging to Fred the Gypsy Dog and his human, Jessica. :) Today we have decided we will become gypsies. We're doing this because the gypsy life full of travel and adventure (and a low cost of living) seems preferable to a stationary life with high rent and other expenses. This blog will document our journey. Right now, we're thinking about how to travel with a dog and other logistical matters. It seems as though a van or similar vehicle is in our future, since many hostels and homes don't welcome dogs. Step one, then, is to get my driver's license!
